Assam Don Bosco University, ADBU and Conference of Religious Women India, CRWI Unite for Groundbreaking Research on Nation-Building and Social Development
In a momentous event on September 4, 2024, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), Tapesia, Sonapur, and the Women Section of the Conference of Religious India (CRWI), New Delhi, came together to sign a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership, which aims to undertake significant research on the life, mission, and ministries of religious women, highlights their indispensable contributions to social development, nation-building, and fostering conscious citizenship.
The signing of this MoU also marked the inauguration of the Data-cum-Knowledge Center, a dedicated facility at Assam Don Bosco University that will spearhead these research efforts. This center is envisioned as a hub for scholars, researchers, and religious communities, where data and insights about religious women’s leadership and influence in societal development will be compiled, studied, and shared.
A Unified Vision for Social Transformation
The collaboration between ADBU and CRWI is a groundbreaking initiative that recognizes the often overlooked yet powerful role of religious women in shaping a progressive and harmonious society. By delving deep into the missions and ministries of these women, the research will provide a platform to highlight their work in areas like education, healthcare, community development, and conscious citizenship, all of which are critical to nation-building.
Leading the event from ADBU were Fr. Jose Palely, Vice Chancellor; Fr. Joseph Nellanatt, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Fr. Zacharias George, Registrar; Fr. James Chacko; and Dr. Subrangshu Dhar, Head of the Department of Social Work. Together, they highlighted the importance of this collaboration, which will shine a light on the lives and work of religious women across India.
Inauguration of the Data-cum-Knowledge Center: A New Milestone
The centerpiece of this collaboration is the newly inaugurated Data-cum-Knowledge Center, a space dedicated to compiling, preserving, and advancing knowledge on the contributions of religious women. This center will act as a focal point for research, enabling the collection of data that will document and promote the remarkable impact these women have had in driving social transformation.
By offering a platform for collaboration between religious communities and academia, the center will support ongoing efforts to understand and appreciate the vast contributions of religious women. It will also serve as an essential resource for scholars seeking to explore the intersection of faith, leadership, and societal change.
A Step Towards Greater Recognition
The MoU and the inauguration of the Data-cum-Knowledge Center were witnessed by several distinguished guests, including Sr. Teresa, Regional Secretary CRI; Sr. Escociana Vaz, Outgoing Regional Secretary CRI; Br. Soosai, Provincial of the Montfort Brothers, CRI North East Region; and Sr. Lily AC, Superior of Carmel School Rani, Guwahati. Their presence signified the broad-reaching importance of this partnership, which is poised to impact religious communities and academic institutions alike.
The Road Ahead
The signing of the MoU and the launch of the Data-cum-Knowledge Center are just the beginning of a long and fruitful journey. This collaboration will provide new insights into how religious women contribute to nation-building and will help foster a deeper understanding of their role in promoting social harmony.
