Empowering Religious Sisters Through Mental Health and Wellness Training!

We are excited to share the incredible success of our first Training of Trainers program on Mental Health and Wellness, a pioneering effort led by the Conference of Religious Women India (CRWI) in collaboration with Christ University, Bangalore. This initiative is specifically tailored for religious sisters, addressing the unique stressors and spiritual challenges they face in their consecrated lives of service.

Our comprehensive training program equips sisters with practical, foundational counseling skills. Participants gain the ability to recognize signs of distress, provide initial support, and guide individuals to appropriate resources. Through interactive sessions, real-life case studies, role-playing, and skill demonstrations, sisters developed techniques in active listening, ethical decision-making, and creating a compassionate and supportive presence. The transformative experience left participants ready to bring hope and healing to their communities.

🌼 Participant Experiences 🌼

Sr. Mercy Kutty Karakkattu, Provincial at Alverna Bhavan, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore, shared, β€œI recently attended (04-11-2024 to 08-11-2024) the Basic Counseling Skills program organized by CWRI, hosted at NBCLC, Bangalore. The five-day course, along with a practical session, was incredibly well-structured and enriching for all participants, particularly those working within women religious communities. The classes covered a broad range of essential topics, including mental health conditions prevalent among women, assessment of distress, crisis management, suicide prevention, and the five-stage counseling model. Key skills like attending behavior, empathy, observation, questioning, and reflection were emphasized, equipping us with practical tools to approach distress, build resilience, and make effective referrals. The CWRI team and Christ University provided a supportive and engaging learning environment, making the content accessible and directly relevant to our roles. This program has offered valuable skills that will benefit not only the participants but also the individuals we support. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the CWRI team and Christ University faculties, Dr. Patrick Jude, Dr. Joice, and Dr. Alphonsa Jose, for their commitment to mental health and well-being in our communities. Your dedication and commitment are truly inspiring and serve as a guiding light for others. Surely, your tireless efforts and selfless service make a profound difference, touching countless lives. Thank you for your firm devotion, which reflects the love and compassion of Christ.”

Sister Mary Vijita SND, from the Sisters of Notre Dame Assumption Province, Patna, added, β€œFor me, the Basic Counseling training program was an excellent, informative, and insightful experience. The content and training skills, methods, and demonstrations were done creatively. The program organizers and faculty members were very flexible and available to all the participants during the practical periods. I salute you all for your immense strength and hard work. May God bless you all!”
