The Conference of Religious Women India (CRWI) was born out of a profound call from the Second Vatican Council—to respond to the signs of the times with relevance, unity, and renewed commitment. In 1964, under the visionary leadership of Mother M. Theodosia A.C. and with the support of Archbishop Knox, CRWI took its first step by establishing Institute Mater Dei (IMD) in Goa. This pioneering initiative brought together young religious women for theological and human formation, sowing the seeds for a transformative journey.
Since its inception, CRWI has served as a national platform uniting Catholic women religious across diverse congregations in India. Our mission is rooted in the Gospel and shaped by a shared desire to uplift, empower, and be of meaningful service to the Church and society.
Over the decades, CRWI has evolved into a vibrant trust, leading initiatives that reflect the prophetic, educational, pastoral, and social dimensions of consecrated life. From theological education and leadership formation to advocacy for justice and care for the elderly, our commitment remains unwavering—to enhance the holistic well-being and capacity of religious sisters so they can thrive in their vocations and lead transformative change.
CRWI today stands on the pillars of:

Through leadership training, mental health initiatives, care for the elderly, advocacy for the marginalized, and eco-conscious projects, CRWI continues to be an instrument of healing and hope.
Every member of CRWI becomes an Apostle of Grace, building a communion of communities.
